Estrology: April Fool’s Day Week, 2014

By Esther Frances

A very, very dynamic April Fool’s Day this year on the eve of an exact Sun / Uranus conjunction at 12:08 AM on April the 2nd, Wednesday. I’d been wondering what might show up with this and while driving home last night heard that a sizable earthquake had visited Chile with Tsunami warning evacuating tens of thousands and warnings going out to distant Hawaii to take care and caution regarding shoreline wave intensity.

An event of this kind is soooo Uranian! With the Moon in Taurus, the primal Earth sign, trining Pluto in Capricorn, (transformation/ death and rebirth) in the Earth sign of Capricorn, it indicates changes, regarding our very foundations, are taking place.

uranusTranslation on a more spiritual and social dimension: We cannot continue to persist in the illusion that the human species is somehow separate from our Earthly environment, our home, while we are here in this interdependent web of Earth-Life.The biologist Elizabet Sahtouris coined the term “rabbitat,” a fusion of the words rabbit and habitat, to emphasize the profound interdependence that exists between a life form and the external environment surrounding that life form.

We humans have been reluctant to learn this lesson. Climate crisis puts this issue smack into our faces, and becomes the wake-up call, (Uranus) that insists that we make the connection. The Sun, source of our Lifeforce, is bringing to consciousness the need for us to redefine and reinvent what it means to be a human being. We live in community within a Biosphere, interdependent with the primal elements of air, water, fire and earth and a multitude of species of microbes, plants and animals that all have a role to play in our very survival as a species, as we do in their survival and wellbeing.

A grand cardinal square with Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter in Cancer, Sun / Uranus conjunction in Aries and Mars in Libra create a huge dynamic that points to the challenge for change. The Aries energy kindles the fire to emerge from the senile and archaic stranglehold of patriarchal systems that seek to control, monitor and suppress individual expression and autonomy. Democracy Now and other interdependent media reveal to us the horrors of solitary confinement, torture and exile imposed on gays, political prisoners, and advocates for women’s equality. Even protesters against environmental degradation, the destruction of the rain forests, animal rights and poisonous food can be regarded as a threat. Tales of them being punished and imprisoned merely for expressing opposition to these interests abound.

Edward Snowden is perhaps one of the most courageous voices of all, revealing to the public the degree to which the corpocracies and governments have created an enormous net to drag everyone into their catch and control. All the brave folks that are finding their voices, taking real risks to reveal and let us know what is happening behind the curtains of public policy, are expressions of the Aries heroic archetype of the brave, the pioneer, the adventurer willing to stand out from the pack, to emerge as a leader for the welfare and greater good of the part of us that is suffering at the hands of the heads of power.

Mars in Libra in retrograde completes the picture. My interpretation is that there is an urgency and insistence that we re-view, re-align, “re-allies,” re-view and re-create our re-lationships with everyone and everything that we are related to. As my late mentor Thomas Berry said,

“We might summarize our present human situation by the simple statement: that in the twentieth century, the glory of the human has become the desolation of the Earth and now the desolation of the Earth is becoming the destiny of the human.

From here on, the primary judgment of all human institutions, professions, programs and activities will be determined by the extent to which they inhabit, ignore, or foster a mutually- enhancing human – Earth relationship.”

In addition to the Libra retrograde, today there is multiple conjunction (means all the energies are merged) of The North Node, indicating the direction we’re to move into for our greatest evolution, the asteroid Ceres, symbolizing nurturing and the asteroid Vesta, indicating what we need to commit to, in the sign of Libra.

The source planet for Libra is Venus and Venus is currently placed in the sign of Aquarius, in trine (in harmony) with the Libra planets Ceres, Vesta and the North Node. Aquarius is the sign associated with community, friendship and group dynamics. The invitation is to expand our sense of love out of the little “romantic,” (my typo was romanic!), into a wider, conscious loving that has greater breadth and inclusiveness to it. We are invited to love our diversity, to recognize the interdependence of all Life and to love and celebrate it.

So in conclusion, you might ask, “How does this affect me?” All the above planets and positions appear somewhere in your personal chart. There is no better way to get that question answered than to consult an astrologer who can show you where and how these energies are showing up for expression and integration in your own chart.

Many Blessings, Esther Frances
